Our Third Grant Recipient: South Liverpool Festival of Art

Thanks to our Art Collection members for casting your vote in our third granting round. We're delighted to announce our third grantee.

South Liverpool Festival of Art: Community Arts Project

The majority of our members voted for South Liverpool Festival of Arts, a revival of the South Liverpool Festival of Art, which took place in the early 1960s. The 2022 Festival will provide skills workshops and arts packs to three schools in L8. Participants will produce artworks that capture the cultural, social and physical landscapes of South Liverpool. Entries will be showcased at a public exhibition held in The Florrie gardens in July 2022. A panel of local artists, headed by 1964 Festival winner Tommy McCafferty, will choose a short list of eight participants.

Here's what the festival organiser, Greg Campbell, said, "The grant will help me deliver the heritage component of the South Liverpool Festival of Art, which will be launched in the New Year. Amongst other things, I'll now be able to produce an exhibition featuring the oral testimonies of those who participated in the original Festival in the early 1960s. It will be a true celebration of the history of working-class art on Merseyside."

You can follow Dr Greig Campbell's as he leds the organisation of the festival here, and of course sign up to our newsletter to keep in touch with the artists we grant to.
